When you get home from work, your dog’s joyful greeting is probably one of the bright spots in your day. So, of course, he deserves the best pet products. Even if you are lucky enough to be able to have your pet with you most of the day, you probably also feel guilty about the amount of time you are forced to spend apart from them.
Adopting any dog breed means committing as much of your time to them as possible. Some more than others, like Dalmatians and Weimaraners. However, work, grocery shopping, school functions, dating or just having a life, are all unavoidable parts of life for many of us. There aren’t a lot of places in your life you can cut things out to add more time to the limited amount your beloved canine companion gets. But, there is a way you can add time to your day, and your pet will be happier for it: Online shopping for things that are too time-consuming to bargain hunt for in stores.
There are a lot of things that people buy online, and while you may enjoy your regular trips to your local pet supply store, it’s still great to have options when you can’t go. If you have an Amazon Prime account, you can get free shipping on a lot of things, including some pet products like dog food. That also means you don’t have to lug the bag around, up flights of stairs, or bring it home on public transit. There are a lot of other ways to save time, and money, too, though you’ll probably end up happily spending both on your fur babies, anyway.

Pet Products You May Not Have Considered Purchasing Online but Should
When you do have to go shopping for your pet, you can sometimes take them with you. However, even then, you likely don’t want to spend all day comparing prices with your excited companion. You could bring your new puppy to the park, instead, and get quite a bit of shopping done right from your phone. That means your special trip to the pet store with your bud is going to be all about them and not your list.
If you don’t have a local store that allows you to bring your animal in with you, or your pup just doesn’t dig slippery floors and way too many smells, then online shopping will be a real time saver for you. Older dogs may not really enjoy the trip, but cuddling with you on the couch while you assure his needed medications are on the way would be just fine with them. Not to mention pushy salespeople or that know-it-all teenager in a colorful vest hovering over you and your pet.
So how much does it cost for shipping when I order my pet products online? The answer is, it varies. Some online stores, like Chewy.com, offer auto ship and boast free shipping for orders over $50.00. Others charge shipping based on the weight of your items and your location.
Other places, like PetMountain.com, offer a percentage off if you sign up for their email list. There are lots of ways to save and lots of sites that offer significant savings. But what are the best products to start buying at online pet stores for your animal?
Dog Meds: Supplements & Pharmaceuticals
Protecting your best friend from fleas, heartworm, and ticks is essential. Along with regular veterinary care, a healthy diet it is probably one of the most important things we do for our little beasties. These items are also something that we may be able to purchase online and save time and money doing so. Online stores like Dr.s Foster and Smith offer full pet pharmacies, and you are likely to find all of your favorite brands, Sentinel, Trifexis, HeartGuard plus, whatever it is that you and your vet have decided work best for you.
Pet meds are usually not very heavy. Not to mention vitamins and supplements, some of which will help your older dog feel like a puppy again by lubricating their joints and reducing inflammation. You probably don’t want to stand in the aisle of the pet store and read the back of every single bottle, but while you are curled up with your sleeping pooch on the couch? Simple and easy.
On some of these sites, you can set up reminders for products that you need to order on a regular basis. On the Dr. Foster Smith page, you can set it up to email you about upcoming needs so that you can order them on time and have them ready to go when you need them.

Doggie Beds and Furniture
Most dog lovers will tell you that their pet has a lot of stuff. Beds, kennels, doggie doors, outside houses, pet fences, playpens, food and water dishes, beds, for some small breeds and puppies even indoor dog potties; not to mention any other number of things we get for them. Again, things that shopping for are time-consuming: comparing, researching, and hauling. But, they are also things you can buy online easily.
Ideal pet products are ones that best suit your animals needs while not putting a significant dent in your wallet. They are sturdy, well put together and made of non-toxic, durable materials. Many of those products are found online and can be cost efficient – especially when you take into account the extra time you will have with your pet and not having to lug it all home.
You will be able to find everything from underground electric fencing for dogs to gourmet treats, beds, kennels, steps for little dudes like teacup chihuahuas and Yorkshire Terriers to use to access tall furniture like beds and couches. Basically, everything you could ever want, easily comparable, and delivered to your door while you spend extra time playing with “Spot.”
Collars, Leashes, Tags, and Grooming Products
Most places have some sort of pet licensing laws, and laws regarding how you inform others that your good boy is up to date on his shots, etc. You may also have chosen to have your critter microchipped. But when it comes to finding that perfect tag – engraved with your vital information and cute to boot, why not just order it and have it delivered? The shipping is usually cheap, the tags are done to order, and you will not have to go find an engraver station to get them.
Not to mention the long leads, extra-large and extra small collars, tie-outs, and harnesses. You don’t have to leave the comfort of home, yet your puppy will have that next size up collar you are going to need in a few months. And the puppy pads, too. Bulky, but lightweight items like that can be a pain to pick up, but are a breeze to have delivered and usually don’t cost too much to ship.
When it comes to bath time, it is essential that you don’t use human shampoo on them – the pH is all wrong. But, when it comes to finding the perfect shampoo at the ideal price, you are back to standing in the dog shampoo aisle, reading the backs and trying to find the best bang for your buck.
Flea combs, grooming tools, clipper and shaving kits, they all can be bought online, too, which not only saves you time it means that you will have the biggest selection to choose from you can possibly get.
Everything you actually want to shop for you can find online
Petco, Petsmart, and just about every major chain store have online shopping centers, (so you can earn rewards with their loyalty programs also) but there are many others. eBay or other auction sites are also great places to search for those larger items locally to you, too.
Some sites, like the Foster Smith one mentioned above, even have a “wishlist,” so when people ask you what you want for your birthday – or Christmas – you can just send them what you really want. Because we all know, seeing our companions happy makes us happy – and getting that luxurious deluxe dog bed for Christmas just sounds like fun. Or the utterly perfect costume for your favorite little dude or dudette, because who doesn’t love a Dachshund in dragon suit?
You and your best pal deserve all the time you can get together. When you can give your favorite puggle even more of your precious time and still manage to have all the Snausages, Beggin-Strips, treats or cookies they need on hand – why would you do it any other way? You can offer your dog the best you can afford, and the time they deserve. While you may still want to buy your dog’s food during your grocery shopping at the local market, there is so much more available online than just food. And it is a lot more convenient than leaving your beloved Fido to go battle the label-jungle of shampoo and joint health vitamins.
We spend a lot of our resources on these little guys. We love them, and we want the best for them. If you haven’t been shopping online, you have been missing out on the sheer selection that is available to you, not to mention the extra gift of time for your favorite animal companion.
